What better way to end Canada’s big 150th anniversary bash than to join in some celebratory ice-skating?
Mark your calendars and get ready to lace up your skates, Canada! On December 10, Canada 150 Skating Day, sponsored by Rogers, hits the ice from coast to coast, bringing the country together for a can’t-miss celebration of one of our favourite winter activities.
In just a few days, Skate Canada will play host to 17 cool (and free) local skating events across the country and one national event in Ottawa, featuring skating exhibitions and coaches who’ll be on hand to assist skaters. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the great Canadian indoors and outdoors, while also giving a rousing sendoff to a memorable Canada 150 year. And for the first time ever, skaters can show off their figure eights and crossovers on Parliament Hill.
With hundreds of other communities and clubs set to participate, Canada 150 Skating Day encourages everyone, big and small, young and old, to join together in a nationwide skating party.
To promote the diversity, inclusion and healthy lifestyle that skating represents, a key component of the Canada 150 Skating Day legacy will be the presence of community skate banks, which will allow children without equipment the chance to get out on the ice and have fun on December 10 and for years to come.
The countdown is on. It’s almost time to sharpen the blades, warm the hot chocolate and take to the ice for a truly Canadian celebration.
