Coming to Pay Per View in May

Here are some more great reasons for fight fans to tune in this month

UFC® 224: Nunes vs. Pennington
Saturday, May 12 at 10 p.m. ET on Sportsnet PPV channels 348 (HD)/350 (SD)

Brazilian Amanda Nunes (15-4-0) is hoping that some home cooking will fuel her fire when she defends the women’s bantamweight title against Raquel Pennington (9-6-0) at UFC 224 on May 12, live from Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

This will be the third title defense for “The Lioness,” with her last fight resulting a five-round split-decision victory over Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 215 on September 9, 2017. Nunes is considered one of the most dangerous fighters in UFC and made worldwide headlines with her 48-second beat-down of former champion Ronda Rousey at UFC 207 in 2016.

The emotionally charged night is also expected to feature the retirement match for MMA legend Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort (26-13-0) when he takes on fellow Brazilian Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida (23-8-0) in a middleweight bout.

Other fights on the main card include: Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (25-5-0) taking on Kelvin Gastelum (15-3-0); and a bantamweight tilt featuring John “Hands of Stone” Lineker (30-8-0) and Brian “Boom” Kelleher (19-8-0).

WWE Backlash
Sunday, May 6 at 8 p.m. ET on Sportsnet PPV channels 348 (HD)/350 (SD)

The Miz lost something valuable at WrestleMania, and now he’ll have a chance to get it back when the WWE® takes over the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on Sunday, May 6 for the Backlash pay-per-view event. After losing the WWE Intercontinental Title to Seth Rollins in a triple-threat match at WrestleMania 34, The Miz immediately decided to invoke his rematch clause for a return match with the new champ.

Following their much-hyped rematch at the Greatest Royal Rumble event on April 27, AJ Styles will once again get a chance to defend his WWE championship against a very persistent Shinsuke Nakamura.

Samoa Joe has had enough of watching Roman Reigns get a chance at WWE glory, and now he’ll get a turn to play in the Big Dog’s yard at Backlash. After watching Reigns get bloodied by Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, an angry Samoa Joe showed up the next night at Raw and told Reigns, “When you fail, once again, I’ll be waiting at Backlash, to put you to sleep!”

Watch WWE Backlash à la carte for $54.99. Or order a WWE Network subscription for $12.99/mo. (Channel 512 Ontario/Atlantic) through your remote (minimum one-month commitment, includes all monthly PPVs, plus SVOD access and the WWE Network App for 1,000-plus hours of WWE content).
