Surprise the kids with an action-packed vacation they’ll never forget
If you and your family are still undecided about where to spend March break or want to find a stunning new destination with something for everyone later this year, look no further. We’ve compiled a list of hot spots that’ll please parents and children alike.
Island of Hawaii, Hawaii
The Island of Hawaii, also called the Big Island, offers stunning beaches, great snorkelling and postcard-pretty waterfalls. You’ll also find whales, laidback surf towns, an astronomy centre and hot ponds you can soak in. Spend a day at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, home of two active volcanoes. Kilauea is the more accessible one – you can view glowing lava from a platform a mile away. The park also has trails, petroglyphs (ancient carvings in hardened lava) and a lava tube.
The Algarve, Portugal
For sunshine, scenery and exposure to a different culture, take the kids to The Algarve, Portugal’s southernmost region. You’ll find endless things to do: explore nature reserves, learn to kitesurf or visit the Roman ruins near the town of Estoi. Go dolphin-watching, run wild at Zoomarine theme park or just relax on a beautiful beach. Wind down each day with delicious seafood (and, of course, local wines) at family-friendly restaurants.
Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Costa Rica’s biodiversity is remarkable – it’s home to a vast range of species (some found nowhere else), and a quarter of its territory is under government protection. Guanacaste province is a terrific place to start exploring. After flying to Liberia, you could play all day on the gorgeous beaches, but you’d miss the national park, the Llanos del Cortez Waterfalls and rafting on the Corobici River. We also suggest visiting an indigenous reserve; horseback-riding, canopy tours, zip-lining and wind sports; and don’t forget to browse local handicrafts.
Enjoy la belle vie in the City of Light. Paris is packed with activities, indoors and out. Scale the iconic Eiffel Tower, see a ballet at Palais Garnier or take a kid-friendly cooking class. Meet the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, explore beautiful playgrounds and parks (there’s one with a hot-air balloon!) or take the train to Versailles. Visit the marine life at Aquarium de Paris – Cinéaqua, check out Centre Pompidou’s programming for kids and teens, or explore Les Passages Couverts around the Grand Boulevards. And, of course, there’s a little attraction nearby called Disneyland Paris.
