Five awesome new additions to Netflix this May

Time to get stoked for another month of binge-watching madness

Whether you’re a science geek, a comic-book fanatic or an everyday binge-watcher, Netflix has you covered. Here are the latest TV and movie additions to stream at your convenience.

Bill Nye Saves the World (Season Three) – May 11

Everyone’s favourite science guy and bow-tie aficionado is back for a third season. In the course of six episodes, Nye combines education and entertainment to tackle life-changing topics such as the truth behind evolution, how climate change affects our environmental foodprint, genetic mutations and more. Special guests include the likes of former governator Arnold Schwarzenegger, supermodel Karlie Kloss and comedians Paul F. Tompkins and Michael Ian Black.

Jewel’s Catch One – May 1

One of the best documentaries to hit Netflix this month, Jewel’s Catch One dives into the “unofficial Studio 54 of the West Coast” (a.k.a. Catch One), a 1970s black, gay disco bar run by civil-rights activist Jewel Thais Williams. Encased in a world of hate and ignorance, Williams created a safe space for people of all racial backgrounds and sexual orientations to get together and dance away their troubles for a few hours. While running L.A.’s legendary nightclub, Williams also managed to help change laws and inspire communities across California. This powerful documentary includes interviews with former Catch One attendees, including Sharon Stone, Thelma Houston, Thea Austin, Madonna and Sandra Bernhard.

Cargo – May 18

If you’re into the post-apocalyptic scene, then add Cargo to your must-watch list. Set is a dystopian Australia, the film follows father and widower Andy Rose (Sherlock’s Martin Freeman) who’s infected by a plague that will eventually transform him into a violent creature. With only 48 hours left, Andy is in a desperate search to find a guardian for his year-old daughter. A thriving Aboriginal tribe may be his child’s only hope for survival, but with their suspicious outlook on those like Andy afflicted with the disease, will they help or will they cause harm?

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Season Four) – May 30

This Emmy®-nominated Netflix comedy series, produced by famous funnywoman Tina Fey, returns for more great laughs. There’s no doubt that Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper) has come a long way after being rescued from an underground doomsday cult. After 15 years of confinement, Kimmy has had to learn and relearn everything average folks do on a regular basis, including socializing, dating, getting a job, going to school and driving a car. Now that she’s already familiar with googling the internet, how will Kimmy fare as a manager for a fast-growing tech startup? We can’t wait to find out.

Thor: Ragnarok – May or June 2018 (release date TBD)

Comic-book fans, rejoice: Marvel’s massive third installment of the Thor franchise is coming to your streaming screen. Complete with a retro sci-fi upgrade in cinematography, this action-packed blockbuster finds our ruggedly dashing Norse god Thor (Chris Hemsworth) teaming up with his mischievous brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in order to save Asgard from their warmongering sister and supervillain Hela (Cate Blanchett). And if that isn’t enough to get you pumped, fans will also get to watch (or rewatch) Thor face off against his fellow Avenger, the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), in an unforgettable battle of brawn.
